Authors must obtain written informed consent from patients described in case reports/articles and for photographs of patients. It may be possible for an author to publish with our explicit consent in cases where patient consent is not readily available or accessible.

Editorial Process

The Editor-in-Chief of the journal first reviews all articles submitted to it to ensure the content is suitable for the journal and in general meets the focus and the scope of the journal. Once reviewed, the Editor elects to either move the article through to the peer review process or reject articles, based on quality and the editorial contribution the article provides the journal.

Once the Editor feels an article meets the publishing criteria of the Journal, the article will move on for peer review.  All peer review is double blind. Reviewers can elect to reject the article, accept the article with changes, or accept the article as is.  Reviewer comments are shared with the author and once the author has made any suggested changes to the article, the Editor gives final approval for publication. At this point the author is then charged the APC.  Please see peer review process for more details.

In the event an article is submitted by the Editor, the article will be sent to an editorial board member, by the managing editor.  The board member will consider the article based on content, focus and scope, to ensure it meets the journals criteria.  At this point the board member can elect to reject the article or move the article to the peer review process.  Once at peer review, the article will follow the same process as other submissions. At all stages, the article will be double blinded.

 Peer Review and Editorial Control

An initial in-house quality control check deals with issues such as competing interests, financial disclosures, plagiarism, etc. Submissions may be returned to authors for queries, and will not be seen by our Editorial Board or peer reviewers until they pass this quality control check.
After the quality control check, the Editor of the journal reviews the article, and decides if the article is accepted for review or rejected.  In some cases, where an article is submitted in English, by an author not fluent in English, the article may be sent back with the recommendations to have the article edited for English, and resubmitted.
Once an article has been accepted, it will be sent to a selected editorial board member, based on experience and expertise.  The Editorial Board member will then either act as one of two peer reviewers, or will select two peer reviewers to review the article.  Reviews are double blind.
Questions, comments, and suggestions from peer reviewers will be submitted to the Editor for consideration, after which the article and peer review remarks will be sent to the author.
Once the peer reviewer, Editorial Board member, and Editor are satisfied with the author's changes, the article will be published.
It is our goal to have accepted articles published within 45 days, depending on the level of response from the authors.
Articles are published in both a web version and PDF format.
